NTT DOCOMO Ventures Invests in WASABI TECHNOLOGIES

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan and led by President and CEO, Takayuki Inagawa has invested in Wasabi Technologies, Inc. (Wasabi), headquartered in Massachusetts, USA and led by President and CEO, David Friend.

Wasabi is providing a low price, high performance storage solution.

Today, there is growing demand for storage solutions to store the unstructured data that is widely used by enterprises for their big data and AI projects. However, the high cost and low performance of these existing storage solutions are not supportive for storing vast quantities of data. As an example, existing cloud storage solutions can change data charge data transfer fees for each upload and download of data.

Wasabi offers affordable, reliable, and fast cloud storage solution with high compatibility. By introducing the Wasabi solution, service providers can also expect to dramatically reduce storage costs because Wasabi features competitive price/performance value with no additional data transfer fees. Wasabi also provides an 11 x 9 (99.999999999%) data durability solution. In addition, Wasabi is AWS (Amazon Web Services) S3 API compatible which allows customers to deploy the Wasabi solution in the same way as AWS’s S3, achieving better write and read speeds than existing solutions.

The investment in WASABI enables both NTT Groups that provide cloud solutions, and Wasabi to accelerate the development of industry-changing solutions.
NTT Communications Corporation will launch “Wasabi Object Storage” in cooperation with
Wasabi in the European region, American regions and Japan region by the end of 2019.

NTT DOCOMO Ventures will continue to promote collaborations with startups and the development of new services based on NTT Group’s advanced technologies, as a part of the Group’s ongoing endeavor to resolve social issues and create new value for customers through innovation.
