NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President and Chief Executive Officer: Minoru Etoh) today announced its investment in WHILL, Inc. (headquartered in California, U.S.; CEO: Satoshi Sugie) (“WHILL”), a developer/distributor of next-generation personal mobility.

1.Overview of the investment

Through the investment fund operated by the company, NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. completed the investment by joining the funding round for WHILL.

2.Background

WHILL provides an innovative, comfortable, and smart mobility device to elderly/physically challenged customers and develops next-generation personal mobility combining excellent functionality and design. In addition, sales expansion is planned in order for the device to actually be accessible to many people in public facilities, airports, dwelling spaces, shopping malls, amusement parks, etc. Such efforts by WHILL have a high affinity for efforts relating to safety/security and business relating to personal mobility of NTT DOCOMO and the NTT Group, so we expect it will contribute to these areas.
