NTT DOCOMO Ventures Invests in MiRESSO Co., Ltd., which is Working to Secure the Stable Supply of Beryllium Required for Fusion Energy Power Generation

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO & CCO: Yuko Sasahara; hereinafter, “NDV”) is pleased to announce that, through a fund that it manages, it has invested in MiRESSO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Misawa-shi, Aomori; CEO: Masaru Nakamichi; hereinafter “MiRESSO”), a company working to ensure a stable supply of beryllium, a material essential for fusion energy applications.

MiRESSO operates with the aim of ensuring a stable supply of beryllium, a rare metal. Power generation from nuclear fusion, which is currently under development worldwide, requires large quantities of beryllium. However, current production levels are insufficient, and the material is also expensive, presenting significant challenges. MiRESSO’s founder has developed a new low-temperature refining technology at the National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology. This technology enables the refining of mineral resources that previously required high-temperature processing, thereby reducing costs and energy consumption.

The NTT DOCOMO Group is committed to advancing the IOWN concept* to reduce the power consumption of information and communications infrastructure while also driving the realization of sustainable, clean energy.
Through this investment in MiRESSO, the Group will accelerate solving social issues and aim for creating new value.
