NTT DOCOMO Ventures Invests in booost technologies, Inc., a Climate Technology Company Aiming to Realize a Carbon-Free Future

NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO, Yuko Sasahara; hereinafter “NDV”) has invested, through its fund, in booost technologies, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; Chief Executive Officer, Hirokazu Aoi; hereinafter “BT”), which develops and manages “ENERGY X GREEN,” a carbon dioxide emissions visualization cloud platform, among others.

BT, with the vision of being “a group that creates socially useful technologies and a future that can be passed on with pride to the next generation,” offers “ENERGY X GREEN,” a cloud platform enabling the visualization of carbon dioxide emissions and the preparation of reports for realizing a carbon-free future.
In recent years, with the background of the increase in average temperatures worldwide, disasters caused by climate change have become frequent, which has made it urgently necessary for the international community to take measures against global warming. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which are said to be causing global warming, are emitted through daily economic and other human activities, and their reduction is necessary worldwide. In October 2020, the Japanese Government declared that by 2050, Japan aims to realize carbon neutrality or a state of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
“ENERGY X GREEN,” which BT offers, is a cloud service comprehensively supporting the efforts of companies aiming for carbon neutrality from plan development to execution and management, including the visualization of carbon dioxide emissions caused by corporate activities, development and progress management of decarbonization roadmap, carbon offset through the purchase of non-fossil certificates and procurement of carbon dioxide-free electricity, and preparation of reports required by international initiatives (RE100, SBTi, TCFD and others).
By inputting, among others, the power usage data of each office and store into this platform, a company can have carbon dioxide emissions calculated automatically and develop the decarbonization plan for its group that includes the offices, stores, subsidiaries and others. Moreover, taking advantage of the cloud service, a company can launch its initiatives toward carbon neutrality without building its own system.

NTT Corporation (NTT) has formulated a new environment and energy vision “NTT Green Innovation Toward 2040” on September 28, 2021, to achieve carbon neutrality for the NTT Group and to provide new services to contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality in society through, among others, the increased use of renewable energy and implementation of the initiatives for lower energy consumption by the introduction of IOWN* technologies. NDV has invested in BT this time, hoping that the cooperation with BT will accelerate the progress of the above initiatives.
From now on, NDV will work together with the startup for the achievement of the social goal of carbon neutrality through the provision of support to the cooperation between BT and the NTT Group.

* The Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) is an initiative for networks and information processing infrastructure proposed by NTT.
